Overwhelmed by the constant claims of "green" and "eco-friendly" paper being made every day? Don't have the time to research every option out there? Use the Re-nourish Paper Finder to make your job easier and find just the right paper for your next project.
There are over 300 papers in the database, each independently researched according to the following criteria:
Recycled Content
For wood fiber-based paper, Re-nourish only includes papers with greater than 30% postconsumer waste content (PCW).
Type of Fiber
To encourage the use of alternative fibers, we include any paper made with non-wood fiber, provided it meets our other criteria as well. This includes dedicated crops like kenaf, hemp, and banana, and agricultural residue (a byproduct of food crops). We do not include cotton-based papers, as cotton production is resource-heavy and pesticide-intensive.
Bleaching Process
Only processed chlorine-free (PCF) and totally chlorine-free (TCF) papers are included in the database.
Energy Used
Papers made with renewable energy, or by manufacturers purchasing offset credits, gets additional consideration, though are not included based solely on this criteria.
Third-party Certification
Independent environmental certifications such as FSC, Green Seal, or Ancient Forest Friendly are also considered. However, because smaller mills may not have the resources to afford the often costly and time-intensive certification process, lack of such certification doesn’t immediately disqualify a paper.
Independent Research
To ensure accuracy and independence, Re-nourish relies on multiple third-party sources for its information, including environmental nonprofits, government agencies, and the paper companies themselves. We do not accept funding or advertising from the companies represented in the database, either directly or indirectly.
