Sustainable Graphic Design Standards—Packaging
The Sustainable Graphic Design Standards allows anyone to immediately place a given project into a sustainable context by providing a reliable third-party assessment that specific and rigorous sustainable design criteria have been met. All projects listed in the Case Studies section, and/or bearing the Re-nourish verification symbol, have met multiple criteria within each of the categories listed below.

Purpose
Project must not impede basic human rights, or be designed to negatively impact the biological environment.
Life cycle
Project must integrate specific life cycle planning into the design process.
Physical format
Specific physical design criteria must be implemented to reduce environmental impact.
Materials
Materials must adhere to particular toxicity, geographic, and compositional specifications.
Manufacturing
Specific operational procedures, facilities, and location requirements must be met.
Finishing
Project must be free from specific environmentally-detrimental finishing processes.
Distribution
Project must comply with particular methods of distribution intended to reduce carbon footprint.
Disposal
Specific disposal criteria must be met to reduce short- and long-term environmental impact.
